Dear fybioware mod(s), well not 'really' bioware games, could you suggest some good mods for Baldur's Gate 1 and 2. There are SO MANY I don't know where to start. Also any suggestion who I should woo first Xan or Kivian?

Oh man, I am SO happy to assist with this request, anon! I understand - going through the lists are very difficult, since the games are so good and they’ve been out for so long. To be honest, I’ve only beaten BG2 (but multiple times) so my mod recs are going to be based on that.

I highly recommend going through this list of BG:EE-compatible mods. (I assume you have the Enhanced Edition - if not, you should definitely get that.) It doesn’t narrow it down much because it lists EVERYTHING, but it’s an awesome source to find things you might want.

Some personal favorite mods include:

  • Unfinished Business - “Designed to restore many of the cut items, quests, and encounters from the game’s final release, as well as try to tie up some of the loose ends.”
  • Kelsey NPC - A sorcerer, romanceable, and my personal favorite NPC. Mainly because of my undying hatred for Anomen - this mod adds a lot of shit-giving between Kelsey, PC, and him. It’s great.
  • Arath NPC - A romanceable druid companion. I haven’t beaten the game with him yet but enjoy him very much so far.
  • Two different banter packs - My favorite thing about these games is the banter between the various combinations of NPCs, and this adds even more!
  • Dungeon-Be-Gone - allows you to skip Irenicus’ dungeon completely, but gives you the xp, items, gold, and quests. A godsend for those of us who have played it twenty+ times…

For those of you who don’t have the games, both the Enhanced Editions of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II (including the expansion, Throne of Bhaal) are available on Steam!

I hope this helps! :)

I recommend the NPC Project (for BG1) and the Kivan romance mod (for BG2) on top of those.

Also you can use a tool called Big World Project which manages and installs all your mods and stuff for you. There is a EE compatible version as well IIRC. This also lets you install programs (BGTutu or BG Trilogy) that smush BG1 and BG2 into one game with the same engine so you can play BG1 with all the improvements from BG2, similar to how the EE revamped the games, but this way you can customise it and install the mods of you choice.

More helpful BG modding advice - thanks kakaphoe! (I’m gonna go get that Big World Project now myself!)

Life… is strength. This is not to be contested; it seems logical enough. You live; you affect your world. But is it what you need? You are… different inside. This woman lives and has strength of a sort. She lost her parents to plague, her husband to war, but she persevered. Her farm has prospered, her name is respected and her children are fed and safe. She lived as she thought she should. And now she is dead. Her land will be divided, her children will move on, and she will be forgotten. She lived a good life, but she had no power; she was a slave to death. I wonder if you are destined to be forgotten. Will your life fade in the shadow of greater beings?

Tried to introduce the classic RPG Baldur’s Gate to my girlfriend. Loaded it up and saw this little gem of a quote from Friedrich Nietzsche. My mind ticked over for a while and I realised that 13 year old me thought that Friedrich Nietzsche was just an in-game character along the lines of Elminster or Gorion :/
